Working towards sustainable set building in the Creative Industry

We are promoting positive change in the film industry by taking our own waste management seriously. We are trying our best to get as close as we can to achieving the goal of "zero landfill" with every bit of waste and bi-product arriving in the correct bins to get reused or recycled.

For example, our wood gets reused by us or recycled by R.Collard. We also are a member of Ecologi and contribute to replanting trees to give something back.

All our metal waste goes to the scrapyard. :) And as hopefully all of us in the industry, we pay for a dry, mixed recycling bin to get emptied and regularly.

So now, you might wonder what is happening to our non-recyclable, non compostable waste then?

By opting for products that are packaged without non-recyclable plastic, you’re avoiding creating any unnecessary waste that’d otherwise end up in landfills, therefore we put a lot of effort in researching products before buying them for our workshop and staff areas. However we do acknowledge it is not always possible to get your shopping done with only recyclable items and no horrible plastics in it, especially in our industry - at least not just yet! We are constantly on the look out for alternatives to replace problematic waste, and the good news is paint, tool, wood and other suppliers we use are coming up with brilliant solutions that enables us to become more and more green.

Re3, who are a local waste management partnership between Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham Borough Councils is very handy to have near us, this is where we drop-off leftover paint and dirty shellacs or any waste that is more difficult to recycle in just a bin.

Wherever we can, we use waterbased painting products and world friendly liquids and try to eliminate as much as possible of hazardous chemicals in our sets.

Many ambitious environmental targets, projects and changes still lie ahead of us. By taking responsible action, we aim to make a lasting contribution to the maintenance of our living space for nature and for the people we share this Planet with.
